Bread & Rosewater is a compilation of all of my hobbies, preps, and obsessions. Born and raised in Baltimore City, I live on 1/4 of an acre in NE Baltimore, with my anchor partner, cat, chickens, kid, and incredible community of friends and neighbors.
I am so fortunate to have the time and space to experiment with different foods, survival preps, and farming practices. I decided to consolidate all that I’ve learned into a single web presence of Bread and Rosewater, partially to stop having to keep track of all of my different recipes and how-to guides, but also to try to add to the community of queer farmers and healers.
My primary goal is to share what I’ve learned, what I’m wondering about, and answer some of the questions I spent years trying to answer when it comes to plants, animals, and food. As time goes on, I’ll likely also link to some of my woodworking projects, both in how to and also for sale. Sometimes I sell eggs, candles, and herbal remedies.

Any recipes you find here will likely not contain onions or soy (I’m allergic) but feel free to adapt to your diet and desires. I’m a reluctant omnivore but tend to try vegan recipes first.
If you want to sample some of my experiments feel free to check out my Etsy store.
Important note:
I am not a clinical herbalist, I’m a folk herbalist, and have been a student of the plants for 18 years. I’m going to talk a lot about herbs and their potential benefits here but that should not override other medical recommendations. I will do my best to discuss the possible contraindications (bad or complicating effects) of the plants, but that does not mean there might be other complications. Please discuss with medical professionals for your own unique body needs.
Another note, I don’t think about herbs in terms of “One Solution Syndrome” that being that each herb fixes or addresses one thing. Herbs and foods act differently in each body, and many have many different constituents.
